I welcome the idea to merge the projects. Scid vs. PC is the bug-fixed and user-friendly version in the spirit of Shane Hudson (the initial creator of Scid). Re-implementing the docked mode is a good idea - I think that merging Scid's code for the docked mode into the code of Scid vs. PC is harder than re-implementing; although some of Scid's code may be usable. Probably the re-implementation will be done in a more full-hearted way; Scid's docked mode is implemented quite half-hearted. As far as I can see no relevant code of Scid - beside the new game history - is missing in Scid vs. PC, this is a solid basis for a reborn Scid. Scid vs. PC is contributing some novelties, not included in Scid.
In the past I've contributed some code from Scidb to Scid vs. PC, in the future I will contribute to Scid, just as the merge is done. One of the current tasks in Scidb is the implementation of a tiled window layout (an enhanced docked mode), probably some of the code is suitable for the re-implementation of Scid's docked mode. Please note: I will not be a developer for Scid, I'm working on Scidb, but I'm open for contributions. For example I like to enhance my earlier contribution to Scid vs. PC of the use of graphical figurines. By the way: I don't think that the name of Scid should change, Scid vs. PC's code is in the spirit of Shane Hudson (Scid = Shane's Chess Information Database), who has invented some ingenious ideas. Gregor (Developer of Scidb) About my person: I'm developing software since over 30 years, and I've spent a lot of time for a deep analysis of Scid. Some basic ideas in Scidb are a result of this analysis. But Scidb is not a second Scid, Scidb has his own way how to display and handle data, and contains some novelties, not included in any other chess application. -- Gregor Cramer email: <gcra...@gmx.net> ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Everyone hates slow websites.
