Thanks for the inputs.
There is one other thing that bothered me. When I received the mailing
list subscription confirmation, there was no email address mentioned in
the message indicating where I should post messages to the list.
Perhaps this could be changed with a line: "To post a message to the
list, send your email to <scid-users@lists.sourceforge.net>".
That should obviate the need for much head-scratching.

Hello,
To view the moves from the active game, open the PGN Window via the
Windows Menu.
Once open, the window should appear next to your chessboard. You can
right-click on the tab (look for "notation") to move it to the top,
bottom, left or right of the other open windows.
To keep it open every time you open SCID, select Options > Save Options.
