Yes, querying an online tablebase server is included
in this support as the primary choice.

Yes, but I will support two tablebases:

1. The Nalimov tablebases, because these are the most
widespread ones, some users are already using these
with Scid. And I've already implemented this tablebase
support some years ago (but still not yet tested).

2. The Syszygy tablebases: these tablebases are quite small
compared to other ones, and provides the DTZ (Depth to
Zeroing-move), but the online query does only give the DTM
(Depth to Mate). DTZ provides the additional information
whether an endgame can be won without failing due to the 50
move rule. With the DTM/DTZ information the engine analysis
is complete. Scidb will offer a download service for these
tables. I do not have a server for online queries of the
DTZ, and the Syzygy bases are relatively small.
