Astronomy Picture of the Day:
http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/
This site has been running since 1995, so the archive is extensive.
A relative newcomer, using the same principle of neat pictures with
brief captions and links for more information, is the Earth Science
site. Here's the blurb:

EARTH SCIENCE PICTURE OF THE DAY

The Earth Science Picture of the Day (EPOD) project is collecting and
archiving photos, imagery, graphics, and artwork with short explanatory
captions and links exemplifying features within the Earth system. The Earth
science community is invited to contribute digital imagery, short captions,
and relevant links. Image contribution guidelines, and acceptable use
policies can be found on at the EPOD web site: http://epod.usra.edu/.

EPOD is supported by a grant from the NASA Goddard Directors Discretionary
Fund in collaboration with the Universities Space Research Association's
Earth System Science Education (ESSE) program
(http://www.usra.edu/esse/essonline/). For further information, please

has omitted the very thing we are now to teach." -Bonnie Weaver Duldt
