Crippen, Ph.D. Department of Curriculum and Instruction [EMAIL PROTECTED] ICQ 46852692 http://www.getafterit.com We have been developing a series of Web-based courses for high school chemistry teachers under support from the National Science Foundation (ESI-9819377). http://dwb.unl.edu/teacher/teacher.html We're looking for students in four courses right now for a "throughput" test: Water and solutions http://dwb.unl.edu/Teacher/NSF/C01/C01.html Nuclear chemistry http://dwb.unl.edu/Teacher/NSF/C03/C03.html Biomolecules http://dwb.unl.edu/Teacher/NSF/C10/C10.html Acids and bases http://dwb.unl.edu/Teacher/NSF/C12/C12.html We have 8 other courses running, and teachers are welcomed into any of these. But, given a choice, we would appreciate concentrated enrolments in the four courses listed. In fact, we're looking for about 60 enrolments IN THE NEXT TWO WEEKS and, if enough folks pop into one of these courses, we may experiment with a 'student chat room.' Our program envisions that teachers will use the graduate course credits in a degree program for masters or other degrees. We prefer that teachers work with a mentor, presumably the same person with whom they would work toward a degree. For the purpose of this course, David Brooks will be happy to serve as a mentor. However, you may want to use this credit at someplace other than UNL. (In other words, this is NOT UNL recruiting.) Lots of teachers are just �doing this to see what it�s like.� Credit, though important to many, is neither required nor important to all. The first person to start a course with us finished 15 months after she started, and is talking about signing up for two more courses in July. So far, EVERY teacher who has completed a course within 3 months (just over half of all who have started) has signed up for another course (or more), and half of them already have found material useful in their daily instruction. We are anxious to enroll as MANY teachers in a group as we can who share a geographic proximity. IF you are considering a graduate program or already are in a graduate program, determine whether that program will accept graduate transfer credit (in chemistry, in curriculum and instruction).
