Teen caught with 2 guns at Lane Tech June 1, 2001 BY FRANK MAIN CRIME REPORTER A 15-year-old student was arrested Thursday after bringing a loaded .22-caliber revolver and an air gun into Lane Technical High School, the second time a teenager was caught with a gun in a Chicago high school in the last month, police said. The student brought the weapons to school for self-defense after receiving a threat from other students, police said. Chicago school officials were trying to determine whether he walked past metal detectors with the weapons or sneaked them into the Northwest Side school some other way. Another student told school security officials that the 15-year-old was carrying weapons. A Chicago police officer and two school security guards stopped the student in a hallway and found the weapons during a pat-down, police said. The revolver contained two live rounds, officials said. The student was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, a felony, and possession of an air pistol, a misdemeanor, police said. He was automatically suspended for 10 days pending an expulsion hearing, a school official said. On May 15, a 14-year-old student was arrested after getting a fully loaded revolver past the metal detectors at Steinmetz High School on the Northwest Side. Two officers were slightly injured subduing the student. The boy had a history of disciplinary problems, officials said. -- This is the CPS Science Teacher List.
