The bigger issue for me is we support one browser across platforms,

_Adding_ a supported browser is a "big deal".
So it's very useful to have an option to have things work in Firefox.
Ok, I see. The issue is the people who cannot handle the concept of using
different browsers for accessing different web sites. Before web 2.0,
as near as 5-10 years ago, it was not a concept, it was a fact of life.
The idea of one universal browser for universal use with every web site,
on every occasion, with every screen size, for every user, every day - it is a
mirage.

Site that still use active x are a pain in the butt. Can't
read them from Linux anyway. In Windows, I like to use
"IE Tab 2" so the user never has to leave Firefox and
stay in Internet Explorer and get themselves into trouble.

Firefox is great if you don't want to use the latest flash player. I'm
suggesting you use Chromium because the solution you proposed does not
sandbox or isolate flash from the rest of the browser. Security
vulnerabilities in Flash will have a greater chance of doing harm on
Firefox than in the native Google Chrome/Chromium.
