Missing laptop mains power indication [2]

I rebooted the machine picking an earlier kernel from the list.  The 
software power indicator does work under this condition, showing both 
the mains connection and the remaining run time from the battery (state 
of charge).  In all cases, the mains indicator from the power adapter at 
the laptop is illuminated, indicating that there is incoming power from 
the mains adapter.

Has anyone else observed this?  Is there going to be a patch, or does 
one run the earlier (presumably less secure) kernel?

HP Zbook

Both MATE PowerManager 1.14.0 and GKrellM 2.3.5 report no mains 
adapter and 83 percent remaining in the battery for 10 hours 30 
minutes -- this started after the above update.  The amount of battery 
time is very far off -- it really should be about 2 hours.

Has anyone else experienced this?  Is there a fix/workaround?
