I will echo this advice. Based on 20+ years of painful experience, I recommend you forget about upgrades and instead turn your effort towards getting your infrastructure to where you would be comfortable reinstalling any O/S on any server at any time. Unfortunately, I suspect this is the sort of thing that is usually learned only through painful experience. - Pat
