There are some commands, all starting with pm- (pm=PowerManagment):
pm-hibernate pm-powersave pm-restart pm-shutdown pm-suspend
...
Further, in the KDE Panel you should see the Klaptop icon (near lower right corner of the taskbar. It is either a battery, if you are on battery, or a plug). Right click on this icon and you get a menu with "Lock & Suspend" "Suspend" "Lock & Hibernate" and "Hibernate".

In the KDE Control Center: KDE -> Control Center -> Power Control -> Laptop Battery. You can configure Klaptop.

KLaptop?! Yo're right, it was there in SL5 Beta, but it seems it's missing
from what I've installed! (I am _not_ near it now, it's from my memory...)

I guess I performed an incomplete KDE installation after the initial GNOME
LiveCD install :(( I should try `yum provides klaptop' or smth.

And I forgot I should have it, because I saw on a StartCom EL5 desktop
installation that KLaptop was somehow not there.

Anyway, I forgot about KLaptop, now that everybody uses either KPowersave, or
the "KDE guidance power manager" (or whatever its name is).

Thanks!

klaptop is part of the package "kdeutils". Do you have kdeutils installed?

By the way, maybe I should also create a SL5 LiveCD with KDE ...
