Hi,

If you are not "afraid" of proprietary drivers you can try the NVIDIA driver
from SL contrib:

ftp://ftp.scientificlinux.org/linux/scientific/51/i386/contrib/video/

Install nvidia-x11-drv and dkms. dkms (Dynamic Kernel Module Support) will take care that the nvidia kernel module is rebuilt after a kernel update.

Configure the nvidia driver with /usr/bin/nvidia-settings and not with
system-config-display.

Hello,

after a fresh SL5.1 install on a Dell Optiplex 740
I have no mouse pointer which is very annoying :)

It was there during the install and during the boot process.

Also, I was not able to get a better resolution than 800x600
on a 1600x1200 flat panel screen with the "nv" driver
00:05.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation C51 [GeForce 6150 LE]

The sound is working
00:10.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP51 High Definition Audio (rev a2)

rpm -Va seems to give a lot of files with at least a bad Time

Thanks for your help.
