Hmmm. I'm running SL 5.3 and passed the test on the first try
without updating libgcrypt.
rpm -q libgcrypt
libgcrypt-1.2.4-1.el5.x86_64
libgcrypt-1.2.4-1.el5.i386
Did I miss an update that broke openssl? Or did I miss the openssl
update?
rpm -q openssl
openssl-0.9.8e-12.el5_4.6.x86_64
openssl-0.9.8e-12.el5_4.6.i686

Hello,
The recent update of openssl update of last week needs the newer libgcrypt
that is in Scientific Linux 5.4. Otherwise some programs will not be able to
connect to https sites.
This only affects SL 5.0 - SL 5.3.
To test if this is broken or working for you, try to connect to a https web
site using lftp. Here is an example
lftp https://www.scientificlinux.org/
If this test doesn't work for you, update you libgcrypt, as shown below, and
try again. You do not need to reboot.
If everything goes well, this newer libgcrypt will go into the security
errata for SL 50, 51, 52, and 53, tomorrow.
To test
SL5
-------
yum --enablerepo=sl-testing update libgcrypt\*
or you can download rpm's by hand at
http://ftp.scientificlinux.org/linux/scientific/5rolling/testing/i386/libgcrypt/
libgcrypt-1.4.4-5.el5.i386.rpm
libgcrypt-devel-1.4.4-5.el5.i386.rpm
http://ftp.scientificlinux.org/linux/scientific/5rolling/testing/x86_64/libgcrypt/
libgcrypt-1.4.4-5.el5.i386.rpm
libgcrypt-1.4.4-5.el5.x86_64.rpm
libgcrypt-devel-1.4.4-5.el5.i386.rpm
libgcrypt-devel-1.4.4-5.el5.x86_64.rpm
