Hello, for some odd reason my usb mouse started to die on me. completely. It's a regular cheap mouse with 2 buttons with no fancy functionality. The sequence of events: the fan on processor starts spinning louder than usual and next thing mouse stops responding. Keyboard ( also usb) continues to work at the same time. If i unplug and plug it ( mouse) back - even the diode goes off and doesn't come back.
Hi Things, Not to ask too stupid a question, but did you try rebooting? Usually when the CPU starts making more noise and you remain running, it is because the CPU is getting too hot. Have you used your USB ports to charge anything? iPod, cell phone, etc.? You can burn out your ports this way. The symptoms start with the USB bus acting really weird. Then quitting altogether. You should always use a "powered" hub for things that charge. The stock ports on motherboards are too cheap to charge things. Sometimes on the really cheap motherboards, two USB flash drives on the same port pair can be too much (I usually get away with it though). HTH, -T
