Usually when the CPU starts making more noise and you remain running, it is
because the CPU is getting too hot. Have you used your USB ports to charge
anything? iPod, cell phone, etc.? You can burn out your ports this way. The
symptoms start with the USB bus acting really weird. Then quitting altogether.
You should always use a "powered" hub for things that charge. The stock ports
on motherboards are too cheap to charge things. Sometimes on the r
 eally
cheap motherboards, two USB flash drives on the same port pair can be too much
(I usually get away with it though). HTH, -T

there are only stupid answers .
after reboot everything comes up and works properly. There seemed to be no
obvious sequence of events that leads to this behavior nor set time interval.
your thought about rising cpu temp is an interesting one. Ill start monitoring
it .
I do charge off that port. And I have to tell you, I've been doing so since I
got this box - some 6 years ago. it seemes I always had problems with it. But,
at the time on centos, it used to just hang. And reloading usb modules was a
simple enough solution, so I never bothered to take any other steps to resolve
the problem.
