Here's how I did it, 3 steps:
yum install -y xorg-x11-xinit-session
Create a file /etc/sysconfig/desktop containing the line
DISPLAYMANAGER=KDE
and a patch for /etc/X11/xinit/Xsession is attached.

Still, I have to wonder why this doesn't just work out of the box :(
