The epel , rpmforge , rpmforge-extras repos are not install by default when
installing Scientific Linux. Someone "enabled" them. Normally it is not a
good idea to have "rpmforge-extras" enabled when you are doing updates as
there can be "conflicts" with the base sl repos.
Either disable "rpmforge-extras" repo by editing the "enabled" line in
/etc/yum.repos.d/rpmforge.repo for "rpmforge-extras" and changing it to a 0
which is the default.

I am not sure what has gone on here, I am the only one who would
have installed anything in that computer. So whatever it's my
mistake, can't pass the blame on.
Perhaps I installed SL from the wrong source? Where should I have
obtained it from?
I will do as suggested tomorrow morning.
Thanks to all for the help.
Bob
What source did you use?
