That's a good recommendation, and it's nice to know something original is out there I haven't seen before. In terms of scifi and TV comedy, that's hard...

Nothing as sophisticated as "Python", but what is? A nice way to kill a half-hour without killing too many brain cells. Keith Johnson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Is "My Hero" a comedy? Lucky, maybe? But it does sounds a bit like a show you might have seen one Saturday, Keith, as it's part of PBS' Saturday "BritCom" block, called "My Hero". Similar character, but he came to Earth to capture and exile a criminal from his home planet, where everyone's either a superhero or a supervillain. He fell in love with a human woman, and decided to stay here. About as smart as a gerbil, but has powers roughly akin to Superman. [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: It was a silly, throwaway unoriginal show about an alien sentenced to-you guessed it: hard time on Terra. He had superhuman abilities, but needed to develop his "humanity". Accompanied by an AI companion, he had lots of interesting adventures on Earth. It's not so much that the show was terrible (it was) as the plot reminds me of the '70s scifi shows that made me skittish of TV scif. You know: the Saturday morning and prime time stuff with that angle "alien with powers and technology far beyond ours must hide his true identity while adjusting to life on Earth, and, who despite his superiourity, learns that being 'human' is the greatest thing of all". Bleech!! You know they end up with some cookie-cutter babe as a maybe-girlfriend, and have wacky adventures such as bar fights where their superhuman abilities come in handy. And oh yeah-there's always some justification for the alien to somehow run afoul of a redneck sheriff! Here are two summaries from IMDB: Jesse, an alien is sent to Earth and finds himself in Los Angeles. His only companion is a floating, orb-shaped parole officer named Control. Doomed to stay on Earth until he can show compassion, Control helps him lead as normal a life as possible, but not knowing Earthly ways he often finds himself in trouble.Jesse is a hero in the army of a alien world but he was a little but to good and they became afraid of him so they send him to their prison/rehab/political dissident detention planet to regain his "humanity" our own Earth. He is Super strong, super fast and all but an imbecilic when it comes to being a person. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Astromancer Sent: Thursday, March 02, 2006 21:31 To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [scifinoir2] Anybody Remember This Scifi Series If you can bear it, Keith, tell me a little more about this Hard Time on Planet Earth... Keith Johnson wrote: Whenever I've talked about the bad scifi of the '70s and '80s--that period between the old Star Trek and the Next Generation when there was a *lot* of scifi crap on TV--this is always one of the shows I've mentioned. "Hard Time on Planet Earth" was horrible, cheesy, unoriginal, stupid. I watched maybe two eps--assuming they made that many! It died a quick death. Wasn't the star the bad karate instructor from the "Karate Kid" movies? It was shows like that, and "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century", which i liked at first but which got stupider as time went on, that made me start to doubt TV scifi. Remember that bad scifi show with Hulk Hogan? No? Lucky you! I actually got to the point where I stopped watching many scifi premieres, either for fear they'd suck badly, or for fear that they'd be good and cancelled by stupid network execs. Thus, I actually didn't watch the premiere of the X-Files, Wolf, or Space: Above and Beyond. It was quality shows like that, along with TNG and B5, that slowly got me out of that fear and distrust, and start loving TV scifi again.
