Eureka' Looking At Another Season, 'Flash Gordon' Is Not
By MICHAEL HINMAN Source: SyFy Portal Sep-05-2007 Things are looking good for those setting up residence in the little town of "Eureka." Sources close to SciFi Channel say the show -- as expected -- is looking at an almost definite third season following strong viewership numbers in the first part of the show's second season which included some larger sets and new faces. The second season premiere last summer drew in 2.5 million viewers, down from the near 4 million who tuned in for the pilot -- but that was the largest audience to ever tune in for an original series episode on SciFi Channel at the time, so they probably get a little leeway. "Eureka" has received strong popular reaction, almost to the point that some have speculated the show could move to sister network USA, but sources tell SciFi Portal that there's no chance that will happen. Sadly, the same can't be said about "Flash Gordon." While its premiere did bring in some viewers, successive episodes have not. It's 1.5 household rating premiere, which equates to about 1.7 million viewers, was the network's strongest series debut so far this year. But the other shows "Flash Gordon" beat out only lasted a single season and have already been canceled, like "The Dresden Files" and "Painkiller Jane." Plus, the rebroadcast of "Doctor Who" has been generating higher ratings than "Flash Gordon," highlighting the profit margin loss even for the network even more. Of course, none of this has been confirmed by SciFi Channel or NBC Universal, so treat this as any rumor should be treated. http://www.syfyportal.com/news424121.html Yahoo!
