John,
We do have a local Python meetup here in the Detroit area but it is a very
diverse group and very few use Python for data analysis. We also have a
Predictive Analytics meetup with local professionals. But everyone uses
different tools to analyze data. We are working on the Kaggle Titanic
project to learn about machine learning and I am working on the Kaggle
scipy competition. We are also working on a small project for a local
nonprofit.
