If there are answers on the mailing list then I can copy them to the tracker. I don't know PHP so could go searching through manuals for the answer but probably wouldn't so the item would be marked "I won't be working on this" or similar. With a mailing list multiple people read each message and once one has answered then others can see that there is no need to do so again. Answering on the tracker is less visible so there can be an extra answer on the mailing list. The tracker could be made more visible by forwarding changed tracker items to the mailing list as well (other projects do this, I think) but because they are not directly to the list they go to moderation so often won't turn up for half a day.
