If you want to just search for "python", I think it makes little

If its my code I'll use a .py file extension.
If the files must stay extension-less and you are on Unix/Linux,
then just create links to these files with the proper extensions added
(you can even create the links in a different directory).
I think this way you can edit the originals by opening your links.
