> I'm using SciTE 1.66 on Linux 2.4 x86 with GTK+ 1.2

I see the same behaviour as Ben with SciTE 1.67 with GTK+ 2.83. This
may be a GTK+ 1.x issue as this environment is no longer commonly used
or tested.

Alright, thank you both for your response. If GTK+ 1.x is no longer
supported I won't bother tracking this down. However, in case you are
interested, I've done some more research and here's what I've come up
with:

# Causes SciTE crash during 'open'
-rw------- 1 4294967294 4294967294 35786 Mar 2 18:27 testfile

# Does not cause SciTE crash during 'open'
-rw-rw-rw- 1 4294967294 4294967294 35786 Mar 2 18:27 testfile

Notes
-----
 - The test file can be either text or binary.
 - The test file was created by 'root' on another host to which this
filesystem was NFS-mounted. Hence the numeric UIDs and GIDs.
