Tanel Tammet:

It appears that the gtk+ version 2.8.12 is the culprit: the error
appeared when
I upgraded gtk+ version 2.8.8 to version 2.8.12. I have meanwhile downgraded
gtk+ back to 2.8.8, and the reported problems disappeared.

GTK+ 2.8.12 is quite old now as Fedora Core 5 comes with 2.8.15 and
a standard update will increment this to 2.8.17. I have an old Fedora
Core 4 installation and checked SciTE under GTK+ 2.8.6 there, then
upgraded to 2.8.10 and it still worked. I don't have an easy way to
install 2.8.12.

Possibly there was an issue just around 2.8.12 and upgrading to
2.8.15 will also be OK.

  Neil
