This issue seems to have fixed itself. I no longer see it. On Ubuntu I noticed it's disappearance after I prelinked the entire system. Thank you for the 'set' tip as I didn't know this. btw, I assume to run a command with a variable set, I should run 'env ...' inside a terminal and *not* inside SciTE's output pane. Is this correct? I ask because I wouldn't be able to tell if either method can actually fix it when it seems to have already fixed itself :( Thank you Neil.
