Stephan Hennig:

Anyway, is there a way to change default word characters globally?
Putting accented characters into chars.alpha doesn't help, since, e.g.,
in file tex.properties word characters are defined as

The idea is that each language may have different definitions of
operators and identifiers so this is best set by the language-specific
properties. Some languages allow '$', '@', '.', etc. in identifiers.
If you want to override the definition for
word.characters.$(file.patterns.latex) then set it in your user
options file.
