What I would like access to is the same "subsystem" that are in the commands defined in the properties file. I wish there were a os.ShellExecute, or perhaps a scite.CallCustomCommand(11, "arguments").
April White did a lot of work on this but her implementation hasn't been ported to Linux and I think it may need some more work. Its a bit of a tricky area due to commands being executed on a separate thread. In the archive look for discussions like "exposing the SciTE 'execute tool' functionality to Lua" and "revision #8 to the tool/job/command system".
