In windows explorer go to Tools -> Folder Options... Choose the "File Types"
tab and (if the file extension doesn't exist create it with the 'new'
button) choose the extension and then click "Advanced". There should now be
a dialog with a list of 'actions' probably including a bold one which is the
default (if you double click the file this one happens) choose the one that
you want to cause the file to open in scite. Now choose edit...
Click the browse button in the new dialog and locate the scite ".exe" file.
Once you've chosen this, go to the end of the text box which will now
contain the path to scite in quotation marks, now add "%1" (with quotes) and
a space separating them (I'm not sure if the space is needed) (the %1
represents the path of the file being accessed and you need quotes around it
in order to allow for spaces within the path - cause windows is retarded and
doesn't put quotes into the path name - noobs) press ok, ok, ok and you're
set (don't press the last ok if you want to do the same for other file
types)

This should work - if you have any further queries just ask..

I use SciTE for a simulation program with various extensions (.gem,
.lua, .fly2), but I can't get them to associate to scite vs. 1.73. They
were associated, I upgraded from 1.72, and now it won't work. I am
using Windows XP. Does anyone know how to force it to associate the
extensions to scite.exe? I've tried "Open With" and browsing to the
folder, but it won't acknowledge it.

Thanks,

Nathan
