The communication is working since you can get the OS release.

This is strange but may happen if the reader is in native mode only. In
which case the Setmode command is disabled.

I think you used the reader before under Windows. Can you try to unplug
the PS2 cable (power) of the reader and retry? This will reset the
reader.

I assume you are using the Debian package libgempc410 0.6.1-1.

The Debian package pcsc-tools provides the pcsc_scan [1] command. The
command is very usefull to test if a reader is working or not.

You are not supposed to use windows and then Linux without powering off
you computer (or at least powering off your reader) :-)

I may patch the driver or just patch resetGemPC410 (stand alone program
in ifd-gempc-0.6.x/GemPC410/ source directory) if it is a real problem.
