I have the same problems with a "SCT-Reiner Cyberjack" USB reader. 
It also uses the serial port emulation via USB that Towitoko uses. However, I 
only get "-10", too.

A question: What USB-module does your machine use ?
Is it maybe "usb-ohci" (like with my machine) ?

I believe there are problems with this module ...
