That's interesting. I just called the Long Lines office today and asked if
they had broadband service for my downtown location (513 6th St). Recent
Long Line ads indicated yes but I was told no.

I'd like a persistent connection for credit card authorization within my
Linux-based point of sale system that I'm installing next month.

Cableone seems to be my only option downtown. Qwest DSL is a copper pipe
dream for downtown Sioux City. I'm not sure if Long Lines does or doesn't
have service to my location.

Hey, maybe with an antennae atop the Davidsion Bldg, I can tap into the
wireless network a mere 14 blocks away. :)

Sorry for leaving you all in suspense last month, but it's finally official.
Long Lines Internet has started up it's first Wireless portal. We have
setup the Pierce Street Coffee Works (1920 Pierce) as the first of hopefully
many places around town where you and your wireless card can do some work.
Just walk in fire up your laptop and get online. This is a free service
that we are offering. It's in beta right now to see if this would fly
around town. I know we got pretty heavy into a wireless debate last month,
I stirred up this topic to get some ideas of what people thought of the
whole wireless network. Here is how we have it setup so far. Walk in, sit
down and your assigned a DHCP address (192.168.x.x) and your free to browse
and email. We have filtered alot of ports. This is to make sure we don't
have people port scanning, telneting, ftping around. In a few weeks we'll
have things like an AUP, and detailed instructions. If anyone wants to take
it for a ride the!
SSID is linksys at this time. We are trying to decide if we should set it
to any or change it to something else. Not a whole lot for documentation
right now, it's in the works. Let me know if you try it out and what
problems you run into if any. It may be worth a field trip some Saturday.

Mike
