Hello All,
I'm opening up a new thread for discussion on setting up a cluster.
This little project I'm starting up is open to whom ever chooses to
join. I hope to get the support from a couple businesses {pro bono :)}
for simple cheap stuff to add to cluster and hope some of you can
contribute. I just need some people to bounce some ideas around
for both the hardware setup and software setup.
I also hope when this project is completed I could setup this cluster
to the net so that anyone in the group who would like a cluster account
could simply ssh to the master node and compute till their hearts
content. ;)
Here is a list of stuff that have been promised so far:
1:: 10 P1 mother boards ----for the client nodes
\----> all with integrated nic's and video cards
1:: PCI graphics card --- for the master node
1:: Keyboard --- for the master node
1:: Mouse -- for the master node
1:: Possibly one big assed fileing cabinet --{case}
5:: Power supplies -- for clients and master
The big thing I've found so far is that the easy part is the hardware,
and the hard part is the applications them self s.
There is a couple of routes to go in the way of clustering.
http://openmosix.sourceforge.net/ {openmosix}
http://beowulf-underground.org/ {good reference page}
Openmosix is a kernel patch. It simply shares processes across a
network of openmosix patched computers.
Beowulf is a general term for clusters. It involves Message Passing for
applications that are considered "Paralyzed".
As its stands I still know very little about the whole clustering side
of Geek world, but I am learning slowly, and I hope some of you guys
jump in and learn too :)
