Here is a good Linux newbie story.

Ryan and I put together an old Pro200 PC (over-clocked to 233Mz) w/128MB of RAM and a discarded 15" monitor early last spring. We then gave the PC to a computer newbie (yes, there are still some out there). We added a modem to it and installed Mandrake on it for him. We set it up for him to use a $10/month dialup ISP and made sure he knew how to use it.

I am still receiving email from him every week or two. It has worked out great for him. I think the main thing was to help get everything installed and setup correctly, and to make sure he could use it. We had to show him a couple of time how to do everything and then watched he do it a couple times to make sure he understood. I have received less calls with questions and requests for assistance then any other newbie I ever installed Windows for. It has worked pretty flawlessly for him. It was a real rewarding Linux experience for me (and Ryan too I hope).
