I was raised early on to wait for linux to mature. I have no idea really. I have only installed Mandrake once and a quick redhat install and use it for a few games at home. I am not that informative on how it is going to operate with different environments because that is something I have yet to explore. I run pure Freebsd and try not to mix it with windows, the only other thing I know. Freebsd is ok for a workstation and is getting better all the time, but it has some growing to do too. It really wasn't designed for that purpose. The next few years should be exciting though.
If you are old enough to remember what it was like to work with DOS and you enjoyed it, you would like the BSD's. I enjoy the command line, most days.
