I will try to give it a try ;-) but this could be the proper time to
have a closer look at your last suggestions when a reported my
problem, too, which I didn't really find the time for.

I had an error in that way while working with PuTTY from Windows at a
SuSE-Linux whith wrong codepages set in PuTTY and even under Windows I
think if i didn't specify the environment variable apr_iconv_path with
the iconv-libs of Subversion. I wasn't able to get it working on Linux
even with every codepage change that sounded reasonable, until I
changed the codepage for received data in PuTTY to be ISO-8859-1. Of
cource it makes sense because I changed the codepage at the
Linux-Shell but PuTTY presented it in a different codepage because of
the wrong configuration.

Maybe you need to specify the path to iconv or have to "play" a bit
with your codepages to? I would prefer the first one.
