I'd thought of Mick Ward and Charlie Soane, but I see others have already
come up with them. How about some of the other Shetland fiddlers: Tom
Anderson, Willie Hunter, Davie Tulloch ... I already mentioned Mike Berry,
but two of the other members of Setanta played fiddle occasionally, David
Munro (usually Uillean Pipes) and Jack Bethel (Concertina / Hammer
Dulcimer). One of the Patton brothers (Billy or Tony?) played fiddle with
The Laggan. Then there was Jimmy McHugh - how many of the fiddlers already
mentioned played mostly Irish music and how much of it was due to Jimmy?
Did anyone mention Johnny Cunningham of Silly Wizard? If you want the really
obscure ones, Tom Morrison played fiddle in an early lineup of Contraband,
but left before they recorded. Where was Alistair Fraser when all this was
happening? Well, he was playing with the "Wee County Scotia Band", who
shared a billing with the Whistlebinkies at Lorient in the late 70s.
After the recent discussion of Jim Daly, I ran into him at CCE earlier this
evening.
