There were many ad hoc bands formed.
One of the best I remember was one consisting of
Barbara Dickson, Rab Noakes and Archie Fisher at the end of a charity
concert in the Salutation Hotel in Perth c 1970, honestly their
voices blended together magically despite (or perhaps because of)
their differences.
There were many wonderful moments at Blairgowrie and later the
Kinross folk festivals (there was only one in these days) where
musicians got together on an ad hoc basis in pubs and occasionally
would just 'gel'. Often they parted never knowing the name of their
temporary band member. I'm sure it brought out the best in some,
whether it was because of the competition or the anonymity, I don't
know. I guess it was kinda like strangers unburdening things they
wouldn't do to friends and family.
