I was flummoxed the same way, trying to figure out which of the
alternative readings from McAlpine's dictionary might fit:

                      jump
                      spring
                      leap
                      frisk
interrog + marriage + skip
                      start
                      fight
                      quarrel
                      emission
                      animal semen

The Highlands, where women are women and rams are nervous?

Next step is to try locating the Gaelic text that goes with the title.
