At a meeting of the organising group of the Border Gaitherin in Coldstream
tonight, it was decided that the event will go ahead, despite the fact
that mid Berwickshire is now an infected area with foot and mouth disease.
In light of the fact that many of events in the countryside have been
cancelled, cancellation was considered. However the venues for the events
and the community favour the decision to go ahead with the event.
All the venues are within the town, at the school, licensed premeses or
community centres. Visitors are warned not to walk on agricultural land
outside the town. The only visitors who might wish reconsider their visit
would be those living in the countryside in non infected areas.
Now the good news.
The Gaitherin is a new event aimed at promoting Scottish and Border music
through workshops, recitals, concerts, ceilidhs, sessions.
