My plans for going to Scotland did change, but for the better. If I had
kept to my original schedule, going in October, I might well have cancelled
the trip. Instead, I was there from Sept. 5-15. On September 11, I heard
the news of the terrorist bombings after having just seen the standing
stones at Callanish. The contrast was incredible. I live near Philadelphia,
only 90 miles from New York, and felt a great need to be home, but
continued with the original plans to visit the highlands and islands. I
made a sometimes successful effort to put what had happened out of my mind,
and enjoyed being in Scotland very much. I was never able to hear any
traditional music at the beginning of the trip, and to be honest, after
Sept. 11 I wasn't in much of a mood to seek it out. Someday, when the world
is in better shape, I hope to return.

As to the weather, we had one day of rain, and many days where the weather
changed every 5 minutes, allowing me to see rainbows three times.
