If I remember, the Cape Breton version that you and David put on the
Lighthouse Publications website is virtually identical to this one,
which is presumably pretty close to what Maclean originally wrote.

If we knew when "Johnnie Cope" first became popular, that would give us
another data point on Maclean's little-documented life.  We know he was
dead when the collection was published (some people say 1773), but he'd
vanished from the historical record before 1745.  Was the song an instant
hit, or would it have taken a few years before anyone would think of trying
something like this?

BTW, the above is a terrific piece for the F alto recorder, given a few
octave shifts.

I'm sure I've encountered the A minor version too, but can't think where.
Is it similar to the one in pipe tune books?
