Have you set up the root device correctly for your new kernel image in
lilo.conf???  Does the new kernel have all the various RAID levels
available???  How did you build it?  I found out about
make cloneconfig
a couple of weeks ago.  Saves hours of endless fun!

I'm successfully running 5 mirrored partitions (inc root) but I'm
using SuSE 7.2 with 2.4.7...
