Hey Mark (and Laurence ;)

Yup

image = /boot/vmlinuz-2.2.19
        root = /dev/md1
        initrd = /boot/initrd-2.2.19.img
        read-only
        label = new

Does the new kernel have all the various RAID levels

RAID 1 is in there - that is the one i am using

make xconfig
make dep && make clean && make bzImage && make modules && make
modules_install

I found out about

OK - I've got a bit further. Thanks Laurence for the hint about
System.Map. That seems to have sorted out the module symbols. The initrd
file now works fine, but the RAID arrays are still not detected on boot. I
had a look at the old (2.2.14) kernel configs, and found

CONFIG_AUTODETECT_RAID

This does not seem to be an option in the 2.2.19 kernel (or the one I
downloaded anyway)

Does anyone know where this option is?
