The basics of xinetd are the same as inetd. Only you theoretically have more control over what happens, generally /etc/xinetd.conf is the main default config file, and the files /etc/xinet.d/ are the service level configs, the files can be named anything and theres a line which tells xinetd which service the config is related to the service defined in /etc/services Theres a handy webmin module for this which comes with mandrake and I would assume red hat as well which can make your life easier. Also man xinetd has a rough guide.
