Actually they are , my old desk was on the upper floor of a central London office block , with views over the Thames and the Dome. Its a stand-alone product ( for old hardware ) that sits between your box and the outside world , protecting you and your machine from all the nasties that lurk out there on the net. Its a UK product , so any new net access methods ( for example a new ISDN box ) would be implemented much quicker into the Smoothwall product than it would take to become part of a standard distro. I believe i'm correct in saying they were the first to get BT's ADSL offering working on Linux ( apart from laborious methods tinkering with kernels and the like ). Therefor i can't see a reason why you could not use Linux as a web server even if you had to have a windows box server as a proxy/firewall , you'd just need to set up the networking side correctly on the windows box so that it fed the correct stuff over to your Linux box. I expect i'll be shot down in flames for the above , but it seems feasible to my simple mind.
