If kmail is configured to fetch the mail from your ISP then yes there is
some redundancy there. On the other hand you may want to change your mail
program at some time - if you have fetchmail configured and run it
periodically, then you can still use kmail - just tell it to use your Linux
box as the pop/imap server. You could also configure the Windows box to do
the same. I suspect that when you say 'forward' you really mean have your
mail available on the Windows box. If you want to access the same account
as the kmail program then I think you'll need to first download it to your
Linux box using fetchmail.

Sendmail is normally only used for outgoing mail. There are exceptions;
some ISP accounts which allow 'unlimited' mailboxes use SMTP for incoming
mail. To configure you r Linux box to handle the outgoing mail then you
need to do 2 things:

(NB I use RedHat - some of the file locations my be different for you).

1) set up the smart relay in the sendmail.cf file (actually you don't
_really_ need to do this but it helps). Look for a line beginning DS and
change that to your ISPs SMTP server e.g.
DSsmtp.isp.co.uk

2) tell sendmail it should allow relaying from your laptop by adding its
address to /etc/mail/ip_allow and /etc/mail/relay_allow

Procmail is usually used for sorting/redirecting incoming mail.

On RedHat it needs to be configured in /etc/sysconfig/network too.

You might be wiser trying to change it in Yast.
