Hi Chris,

If I understand correctly, the linux box sits between the windows 
computer and the lanmodem.  Have you told the linux box to use the 
lanmodem as the default gateway?  If you're running Redhat log in as 
root and type netcfg.  This will give you a  graphical tool for managing 
the network settings.
