it bugs my head occasionally too - the most serious thing i've done with
email was setting up a sendmail site from scratch about 5 years ago :)  for
my current setup, it's just a Debian woody box, and i just did picked exim
along with the rest of the packages i wanted while i was setting it up
("apt-get install exim" if you've built it already, or your favourite
dselect replacement)

the configure script led me through the config and all was well.  I like
exim - I just can't get my head round qmail yet.  Too much power and all
that :)
