Perhaps there is some confusion between Gnome and GTK+. GTK+ apps run fine
on any window manager (provided you have installed GTK+), but the Gnome
libraries add some more powerful widgets that are not present in standard
GTK+. The vast majority of GTK+ applications just need GTK+ libraries, but
it is feasible that there will be some that need the extra widgets that
Gnome provides; I guess Galeon is one of these.

You probably should be able to just install the Gnome libraries to allow
you to run Galeon, without taking up too much disk space nor touching your
existing desktop environment.

Hope this helps,
Steven.
