A few months ago I took the (sole) disk from a machine which had been
running NT and plugged it into my Linux box as a second HD but I left the
first partition and boot record as they were.

More recently I did a clean install of RH7 on the same box. The config
program decided it was a DOS partition but set up Lilo to swap the disks
around at boot time if this option was selected, thus, although LILO was
installed on the MBR of the primary hard drive, it was still possible to
boot NT using the NT bootloader. Clever stuff! If you want a copy of the
lilo.conf file, let me know. You might be better RTFMing - that way you
might know what you are doing ('cos I didn't).
