Cool, someone else into MUD.  Erm, there are quite a few good clients,
esp for linux that would not require much porting (I tend to always prefer
modding other projects to my needs).  As for the toolkit, well, GTK works,
and is not bad at it if you can work round some of the problems with the
windows version, or wxWindows, which is what we will be using for
everybuddy's port some time is meant to be excellent.  As for compilers,
gcc is good and Free.
